Mahan Rykiel Associates was engaged to design an outdoor dining terrace atop the historic Union League building in Philadelphia, seamlessly blending modern functionality with the building’s rich heritage. The project encompassed a 1,700-square-foot rooftop dining space and its integration with the central interior corridor to create a cohesive user experience.
The landscape architecture process began with a detailed Schematic Design phase, which included concept plans, material palettes, and 3D modeling to capture the design intent. Following client approval, the team advanced to Design Development, refining the layout, hardscape, planting plans, and custom elements such as decorative paving and shade structures. Construction Documents were meticulously prepared, ensuring coordination across disciplines and clarity for bidding and execution. The result is a timeless rooftop space that elevates the Union League’s member experience while respecting its
historic character.
