The landscape and site development of the Penn State Health—Lancaster campus seamlessly blends architecture and landscape to create a cohesive design with the vernacular architecture and landscape of the site and local area. Walking trails are an important feature of the campus’ overall health goals; encouraging visitors to experience the relaxation derived from time spent in the landscape as well as the healing benefits found through passive interaction with the sites existing features. Storm water management will be purposively integrated within the landscape and hardscape, incorporating strategies which make the most effective use of site facilities and serve as an attractive example of sustainability and innovation in environmental site design. These will act as attractive landscape features as well as provide natural irrigation and innovative storm water management opportunities. These features may also include interpretive signage or other opportunities for patient and staff interaction with the environment.
