MTZ Foodgarden is an exciting new re-development project at the Main-Taunus-Zentrum near Frankfurt am Main. Located on a nearly 2 acre site on the footprint of a demolished part of the mall, the Foodgarden is an expansive addition to the open-air shopping at the mall. Covered plazas, greenwalls, dining terraces, multi-use activity areas, and lush plantings weave between 5 new freestanding restaurants complete with extensive greenroofs and solar panels. Placemaking, branding, material re-use, rainwater capture, heat-island reduction, and an increase in tree canopy and open spaces are major themes, expressed in a design that flows through the site with a mix of modern and retro design elements.
