Valley Forge VR-3 is an active older adult living residential community in King of Prussia. This community consists of approximately 230 residential units on a parking podium with a focus on amenities that will attract a mix of ages and cultures.
The scope included schematic design through implementation for two courtyards, entry drop-off, a southern amenity for residents and their pets as well as site landscape for the building.
Drawing off of regional familiarities and the site’s close approximation to the historic Valley Forge of the Campaign of 1777 and Main Line the material selection was a modern twist inspired by those local materials of stone, wood, metal, and water. The spaces were designed to encourage Physical Activity, Mental Activity and Social Activity. Amenities include a 600 sf pool, spa, activity lawns, gourmet outdoor kitchens, grills, large chess, bocce, fire features, water features, lounge seating and couches in the two courtyards. The ground floor amenities include 2,000 sf of outdoor gardening, a dog run, and a 1/4 mile walking loop around the building.
The design focuses on the indoor/outdoor relationship between the amenity spaces and inspiring a sense of discovery, capturing excellent views from the inside while also drawing residents and guests out into the courtyards. The courtyards were designed with flexibility in mind for ease of programming and enjoyment ranging from reading a book by the cascading water feature to an organized water aerobics class or outdoor movie night. Close collaboration with the architects and interior designers was essential to create a unified amenity program inside and outside of the development.
