Located adjacent to the Acute Care Pavilion, the Restorative Garden provides a peaceful and soothing environment for hospital visitors, patients, and staff. Organized along a meandering path of bluestone paving, the Restorative Garden design fosters inward reflection and respite.
The Garden focuses on a naturalistic water feature consisting of large, rough textured boulders rising out of a low earthen mound. The boulders transition through the garden, transforming into smoothly polished river cobbles, which culminate in a sweeping arc.
The garden provides multiple places to sit for individuals or small groups in areas that are close to the building or in more private areas. Plantings have four seasons of interest and attract birds and butterflies which animate the space and provide both distraction and focus for visitors. Surrounded by lush plantings and shaded by trees, the babbling water feature provides a natural connection to the adjacent Meditation Center and represents the hospital’s holistic approach toward healing.
